Invite

Dwarfed mountains don't give us answers anymore;
Trees with golden leaves
Don't shade only us any longer;
Smooth, enveloping arms
Open powerlessly, heaving deep sighs;
Wounded hearts run and hide
Into foxes' reeking lairs;
Wedding bands remain benumbed
On ailing fingers, at the altars.
We were invited to sumptuous weddings,
From where, as by enchantment,
The groom was missing,
And the bride, her face painted red and black,
Begging on her knees,
Before sacred images.
Dawns loom wide on encompassing seas.
Foreign vibrations lie in wait between puzzled continents;
The sun ravages vast plains,
Its fires swallow us irrevocably,
Transforming us into dust, scattering us into the wind,
As an absolution, a sword in the sky.
